general lore

welcome to the world of mystos, a supernatural game dedicated to providing a reliable home to non-sol characters. we're keeping the lore fairly simple here. our goal is to make it as easy as possible for characters to fit into our realm while also offering you a little guidance and inspiration.

the story so far
supernatural beings have been whispered about since the beginning of time. however, for the vast majority of people, belief in the supernatural waned as the centuries passed. those who continued to speak of their existence were seen as conspiracy theorists and attention seekers; they lived on the fringe, rarely accepted and never believed. it wasn't until the tail-end of the twentieth century that things truly began to change. suddenly everyone had a telephone; they could connect with little difficulty to people all around the world. once again, stories were shared, videos were circulated, and whispers began to grow into something much louder. while it was still a minority, the number of those who believed got larger and larger with every day.

shortly after the turn of the century, a secretive group that referred to itself as only the collective began to leak government documents to the public. these documents spoke of beings that until that moment had been seen as fictional. according to the collective, vampires, werewolves, fairies, witches, demons, shapeshifters, and much, much more were all real. more than that, they'd been living alongside humans since their conception. while some believed the documents were genuine, the government came out to deny all claims. their official stance was that the leaks had been faked in an attempt to frighten the general public.

that was answer enough for many until one member of the collective outed themselves to the public. his name was felix proctor. he was a recently retired agent with the fbi and, according to his claims, a sorceror. what was more, he could prove it. felix went on live television on the morning of november 11, 2002. standing in the middle of times square surrounded by people, he gave an open display of his abilities to the local news. it wasn't long before felix's story went international. many disregarded him as a charlatan or glorified magician...until he was arrested for unsealing confidential government documents. felix has been in prison for over ten years and has yet to make another public statement (many theorize he has been permanently silenced), but his outing led to a number of subsequent revelations from other members of the supernatural community in an attempt to keep the peace.

twenty years have passed since the supernatural community began to come out into the open. now some members live without hiding what they are and exist peacefully alongside humans. others continue to live in secrecy, afraid that it is only a matter of time before their existence becomes a problem for those who see them as different.

the collective
the collective in its original iteration was composed of four supernatural beings from different backgrounds. of the original four, only felix proctor is officially known. the collective has since begun recruiting elite members to join its numbers and the group's current size is a mystery.
